Sending the audience back to November 1979 with and architect, The Nerd play presented by the theater department will open to spectators in the performance hall tonight at 7:30.

“The audience will be there with the characters and hopefully feel like they themselves are apart of the show,” Director Genevieve Croft said.

The show will be the second of the year hosted by the theater department. The play is a production of The Nerd by Larry Shue, a comedy of hilarious proportions featuring the world’s most annoying nerd who is constantly screwing up the life of his best friend. The show will be open November 16-20 every night at 7:30 with matinee performances at 2:30 on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $5 at the door.

“From beginning to the end the room will be filled with laughter,” Croft said. “The show will keep the audience on the edge of their seats until the final curtain falls.”

Croft said the story line of this play deals with common issues students face in today’s society and in life.

“The architect is trying to get his life together with his girlfriend,” Croft said, “but then an unexpected turn of events folds out.”

The Nerd Play was first performed by community members at the community theater then Croft said she wanted to make it a class project.

“Some of my students worked backstage for the production and kept begging me to do this play with them,” Croft said. “They were too young to do it there so I decided to bring it to them here.”

Getting down to teenager’s level Croft said this play will be filled with hooks that will keep the audience engaged until the very end.

“We’re having fun with it,” Croft said, “and I’m sure people that come see it will have fun with us.”
